Disability Ministry at WPC

To see Westminster Presbyterian Church glorify God through integrating children, youth, and adults with differing abilities into the life and the mission of our church.

Our Mission as a Church

Westminster Presbyterian Church is a covenant family of believers called by God to fulfill His purposes here in Laurel, and as a staging ground for worldwide kingdom growth where we seek to live out the Gospel of Jesus Christ – to fill the earth with disciples, subdue it redemptively for God’s glory, and worship Him joyfully. We are being redeemed and equipped by the Spirit to build up one another until the Lord returns.

Disability Ministry

We believe that individuals with disabilities are indispensable to the body of Christ (1 Cor 12:22). We are committed to serving individuals with disability by providing accessibility to their unique needs and helping them become vital members of WPC. Ultimately, we desire to share the riches of Jesus Christ and the power of His life-transforming presence to all people.

Systems We Use

At Westminster Presbyterian Church, we consider it a great honor and privilege to minister to and serve families touched by disability. We want to meet the unique needs of the individual with disability by providing personalized support at the direction of and permission from the parent, caregiver, or guardian. One way we do this is through a Buddy System.

A Buddy System provides a one-on-one buddy to accompany and enable inclusion in any scheduled church service or activity. The buddy system is a procedure in which two people, the "buddies", operate together as a single unit so that they are able to monitor and help one another. Buddies are a rotation of youth students and adults.

On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, ….
— 1 Corinthians 12:12-22

Our goal

To provide parents, caregivers, and guardians the opportunity to attend worship and receive discipleship in a class, or fellowship during an activity while knowing their child is also being included, served, and discipled.
